About Canvas
Fire Protection Without the Runaround
We're a local fire protection company in Acton, MA. We do sprinkler work, inspections, and emergency service across 20+ towns. We show up when we say we will.
Here's the Short Version
Canvas Fire Protection installs, inspects, tests, and repairs fire sprinkler systems for commercial and residential properties across Greater Boston and Central Massachusetts. We're based in Acton. Most of our jobs are under 30 minutes from our shop.
We also handle backflow preventers, fire extinguishers, fire pumps, hydrants, and water mist systems. If it's part of your building's fire protection, we work on it.
Why We Started This Company
Because too many property owners were getting the runaround from their fire protection contractor. Missed appointments. Vague quotes that ballooned once work started. Inspection reports that showed up three weeks late. Or worse, never at all.
Fire protection is serious work. It's life-safety equipment that sits quietly in your ceiling until the worst day of someone's life. And it deserves a company that treats it that way.
So we built one. Canvas runs on a simple idea: tell people what needs to be done, what it costs, and when you'll be there. Then actually do it. That's it. No sales pitch, no corporate layers, no call center. You call us, a real person picks up, and we get to work.
What You Can Expect From Us
We Know the Code. All of It.
Massachusetts fire protection regulations are among the strictest in the country. NFPA 13 for commercial sprinkler systems. NFPA 13R and 13D for residential. NFPA 25 for inspection, testing, and maintenance. NFPA 72 for fire alarm systems. 527 CMR for Massachusetts-specific requirements. We don't guess at any of this. We work under these codes every single day.
When your local fire department reviews our work, it passes. When your insurance inspector checks the documentation, it's complete. We know what the authority having jurisdiction wants to see because we've been through the process hundreds of times in towns across Middlesex, Worcester, and Norfolk Counties.
We Show Up When We Say We Will
You'll get a scheduled arrival window. Not a "we'll be there sometime between 8 and 5." An actual window. And we hit it. If something changes, we call you before the appointment, not after. We know you've got a building to manage and tenants who need to know when someone's going to be working in their space.
We do clean work. We leave your property the way we found it, minus the fire protection problem. And we hand you the documentation same-day. Your insurance company doesn't want to wait three weeks for a report. Neither does your fire marshal. So we don't make them wait.
We Pick Up the Phone at 2 AM
A broken sprinkler head dumps 20+ gallons per minute onto your floor, your inventory, your equipment. That's not a Monday problem. It's a right-now problem. When you call our emergency line, you reach someone who can dispatch a technician to your property. Not a voicemail. Not a call-back service. A person who can actually send help.
We keep our trucks stocked and our technicians on rotation so that when emergencies happen, we're ready. Every hour your system is down is an hour your building is unprotected. We treat that with the urgency it deserves.
Our Service Area
We cover 20+ communities within roughly 35 miles of our Acton shop. Concord, Maynard, Sudbury, Westford, Littleton, Marlborough, Hudson, Framingham, Lowell, Chelmsford, Burlington, Lexington, Waltham, Natick, Bedford, Billerica, Stow, Boxborough, Worcester, and everywhere in between.
We've got technicians on the road in Middlesex County almost every day of the week. That means short response times, lower travel costs, and a crew that actually knows the buildings and fire departments in your town. When we tell you the Concord fire department wants to see a specific detail on your plans, it's because we've worked with them before.
What We Work On
Fire Sprinkler Systems
This is our bread and butter. Wet pipe, dry pipe, pre-action, deluge. New installations for ground-up construction. Retrofits for existing buildings. System modifications when you renovate or change the use of your space. Annual inspections and testing per NFPA 25. Repairs when something breaks. We handle every part of the sprinkler system lifecycle.
Backflow Prevention
Your fire sprinkler system connects to the public water supply. Backflow preventers keep contaminated water from flowing backwards into the drinking water. Massachusetts requires annual testing and certification of these devices. We install them, test them, repair them, and file the paperwork with your local water authority.
Fire Extinguishers
Every commercial building needs them. Most residential buildings do too. We supply, install, inspect, and service fire extinguishers for all classifications. Annual inspections, 6-year maintenance, 12-year hydrostatic testing. We keep you compliant and we keep your extinguishers ready to work.
Fire Pumps, Hydrants, and Specialty Systems
Fire pumps provide the pressure that drives water through your sprinkler system in larger buildings. Private hydrants need annual flow testing and maintenance. Water mist systems protect sensitive environments where traditional sprinklers would cause too much water damage. We handle all of it.
The People Behind Canvas
We're local. We live here, we work here, and our trucks are on these roads every day. When we tell you we can be there in 20 minutes, it's because we know the route. When we tell you the Burlington fire department has a specific requirement for standpipe connections, it's because we've been through it.
Our technicians carry every certification Massachusetts requires. But more importantly, they know how buildings actually work. They've crawled through enough attics, basements, and mechanical rooms to spot problems that less experienced crews miss entirely. Corroded pipe hiding behind a soffit. A valve that's been painted shut. A system that was designed for one building use but the space got converted to something else entirely.
We're not a franchise. We're not a national chain with a local office. We're a Massachusetts fire protection company, owned and operated right here. The person who answers the phone knows your building. The technician who shows up has been here before. That matters when you need someone who actually understands your system and your situation.
